US : New Seafood Import Monitoring Program - Implementation Date and Compliance Guide

Beginning 1 January 2018, specified seafood imported into the United States must comply with the requirements of the US Seafood Import Monitoring Program. In this relation, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries has recently updated in its website the Compliance Guide for the Program. DETAILS

2.The trade was informed via Commercial Information Circulars Nos. 92/2017 dated 1 February 2017 and 401/2017 dated 22 May 2017 of the New Seafood Import Monitoring Program which will come into effect on 1 January 2018. The Program establishes new requirements on permitting, reporting and recordkeeping procedures relating to the importation of certain fish and fish products identified as being at particular risk of illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing or seafood fraud. The Program is established to implement the prohibition on the import and trade, in interstate or foreign commerce, of fish taken, possessed, transported or sold in violation of any foreign law or regulation or in contravention of treaty or a binding conservation measure of a regional fishery organization to which the US is a party.
