Chile : Imposition of Final Safeguard Duty on Steel Wire Rods

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 1252/2015 of 30 December 2015 regarding the initiation of safeguard investigation and imposition of provisional safeguard duty on steel wire rods classified under Chilean Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTSCL) codes 7213.20.00, 7213.91.10, 7213.91.20, 7213.91.90, 7227.10.00, 7227.20.00 and 7227.90.00, the Chilean government issued Exempt Decree No. 130/2016 on 22 April 2016 to impose a final safeguard duty of 38.9% on the imports of steel wire rods with circular cross section less than 14 millimetres of Trefilar Quality, Drawing Quality and Normal Quality for six months with effective from 22 April 2016. Imports from developing countries in accordance with Article 9.1 of the World Trade Organisation Agreement on Safeguards as well as imports from Canada, Mexico and Peru are excluded from the safeguard measure.
