Commercial Information Circular No. 39/2016

Chile : Modifications of Test Protocol for Certain Fluorescent Lamp Ballasts

Further to Commercial Information Circulars No. 1108/2012 of 31 December 2012 and No. 884/2015 of 7 September 2015 regarding the test protocols for certification of certain electronic ballasts for fluorescent lamps, the Chilean government issued Exempt Resolution No. 8378/2015 on 11 September 2015 to modify the test protocol PE No. 5/16 for certain fluoresecent lamp ballasts. A summary of the modifications is set out as follows:

  1. Ballasts with similar electrical / electronic circuit diagrams and distribution of components on the circuit board (PCB layout), same materials and / or components, etc. shall be considered as within the same class of ballasts.
  1. The most powerful model of the ballasts shall be used for the safety test on standard IEC 61347-2-3.
  1. Behaviorial test of the ballasts at the end of the lamp life as set out in Clause 17 of PE No. 5/16 shall be performed for all models within the same class of ballasts.
  1. Tests set out in Clause 11, 15 and 16 of PE No. 5/16 shall be performed by the most powerful model of the ballasts other than the one used for the safety tests.
