Commercial Information Circular No. 383/2016

Brazil : Technical Requirements for Sphygmomanometers and Infant Cribs

The National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (INMETRO) of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade of Brazil issued Decrees No. 46/2016 on 22 January 2016, and 53/2016 on 1 February 2016 to announce or approve technical requirements for (a) sphygmomanometers; and (b) infant cribs.

(a) Sphygmomanometers

The INMETRO issued Decree No. 46/2016 announcing new metrological technical requirements for non-invasive sphygmomanometers for measuring blood pressure in human. Type approval and initial verifications must be carried out no later than 22 July 2017.

(b) Infant Cribs

The INMETRO issued Decree No. 53/2016 to approve technical requirements for infant cribs. The compliance dates are set out as follows:

  Compliance Date Application Criteria
(i) 2 August 2017 Imported and domestically produced infant cribs
(ii) 2 February 2018 Importers and domestic producers
(iii) 2 February 2019 Retailers and other parties
