Commercial Information Circular No. 382/2016

Brazil : Lowers Duties on Capital and Information Technology Goods

The Brazilian government has announced the addition of 275 items to a list of foreign capital goods and information technology (IT) and telecommunications (telecom) goods that benefit from reduced duty or duty-free treatment under the Ex-Tariff regime. Of the 275 items, 243 items are capital goods and the remaining 32 are IT and telecom goods. Apart from a few exceptions, capital goods classified under Harmonized System (HS) Chapters 84, 85, 86, 87 and 90 will benefit from a reduced duty of 2% through 31 December 2017. The IT and telecom goods which are classified under HS Chapters 84, 85 and 90 will also benefit from the same arrangment.

2.According to the Brazil's Foreign Trade Chamber (CAMEX), 20.83%, 11.79%, 10.31%, 10.22% and 9.25% of goods benefiting from the duty reductions will help the domestic rail, electronics, pharmaceutical and chemical, capital goods, and energy sectors respectively.
