US : EPA's Significant New Use Rule for Trichloroethylene
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has promulgated a final significant new use rule for trichloroethylene and the effective date of the final rule will be on 7 June 2016.
DETAILS
2. Under the new rule, persons who intend to manufacture (including import) or process trichloroethylene for use in a consumer product, except for use in cleansers and solvent degreasers, film cleansers, hoof polishes, lubricants, mirror edge sealants and pepper spray, will need to notify EPA at least 90 days before commencing that activity. This required notification would provide EPA with the opportunity to evaluate the intended use and, if necessary based on the information available at that time, an opportunity to protect against potential unreasonable risks, if any, from that activity before it occurs.
