Commercial Information Circular No. 434/2015

Brazil : Modification of Import Tariffs and Establishment of Tariff Rate Quota on Various Products

The Brazilian government has modified the import tariffs of a number of products, and established tariff rate quotas on certain imports.  A summary of the changes is set out as follows:

  1. Certain automotive parts classified under Southern Common Market (Mercosur1) Common Classification (NCM) chapters 85 and 90 to benefit from a reduced duty of 2% from 12% from 1 April 2015.
  1. The duty rates for various products are modified as follows:

  1. Certain information technology and telecommunications goods classified under NCM chapters 85 and 90 to benefit from a reduced duty of 2% from 1 April 2015 until 31 December 2015.
  1. Certain capital goods classified under NCM chapters 82, 84-87, and 90 to benefit from a reduced duty of 2% from 1 April 2015 until 30 June 2016.
  1. Certain capital goods classified under NCM code 8607.91.00to benefit from a reduced duty of 2% from 1 April 2015 until 31 December 2015.
  1. Tariff rate quotas were established or modified on certain imports which would enjoy reduced import tariff treatment. A summary of the changes is set out as follows:

  1. Tariff rate quota of 120,600 tonnes on certain partially oriented yarn classified under NCM code 5402.46.00 has been extended from 14 April 2015 to 8 October 2015.  In-quota imports will benefit from a reduced duty of 2%.
  1. Tariff rate quota of 122,000 tonnes on certain carbon steel flat-rolled products classified under NCM code 7208.51.00 has been extended for three months.  In-quota imports will benefit from a reduced duty of 2%, while out-of-quota tariff rate is 12%.
