Commercial Information Circular No. 306/2015

Brazil : Conformity Certification Requirements for Tiles, Electric Products and Steel Cables

The National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (INMETRO) of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade of Brazil issued Decree No. 99/2015 on 23 February 2015, and Decrees No. 121/2015 and 122/2015 on 6 March 2015 to modify/clarify the conformity certifcation requirements for certain (a) tiles; (b) electrical products; and (c) steel cables.

(a) Certain Tiles

The INMETRO issued Decree No. 99/2015 to modify the conformity certification requirements for certain ceramic and concrete tiles, including modifications on provisions concerning minimum gauge, nominal dimensions and average performance.

(b) Certain Electrical Products

The INMETRO issued Decree No. 121/2015 to clarify that a range of electrical products and similar equipment listed in the Annex to Decree No. 121/2015 are covered by the scope of Decrees No. 371/2009, 328/2011, 163/2012 and 402/2012, i.e. a range of household appliances and similar products with a rated voltage not exceeding 250 volts for single-phase appliances, and 480 volts for other appliances. The applicable standards of each product are also listed in the Annex. Nominal voltage information labelled on household appliances and similar products covered by the above Decrees must be based on Brazilian nominal voltages.

(c) Certain Steel Cables

Further to Commercial Information Circular (CIC) No. 443/2013 of 5 June 2013 of our Department, the INMETRO issued Decree No. 122/2015 to extend until 11 October 2017 for domestic sale of certain steel cables for general use by all parties to fully comply with the required conformity certifications requirements.
