Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 212/2015

US : CPSC Issued New Safety Standard for Frame Child Carriers

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced in the Federal Register (FR) of 2 March 2015 a final rule issuing a safety standard for frame child carriers. The effective date of the final rule is 2 September 2016.

DETAILS

2.The new standard addresses reported hazards associated with frame child carriers, including sharp points, small parts, lead in paint, flammability, openings, exposed coil springs, locking and latching (for carriers that fold for storage), unintentional folding (for carriers with kick stands that can stand freely), labelling, protective components, structural integrity, leg openings, dynamic strength, static load, stability (for carriers that can stand freely), restraints, handle integrity, and scissoring, shearing and pinching. Among other things, the standard ensures the carrier can hold three times the maximum recommended weight and tests the frame, fasteners and seams/stitching under dynamic conditions to help prevent breakage or separation. For details, please refer to the FR notice at:
