Commercial Information Circular No. 982/2014
Argentina : Labelling Requirements for Formulated Phytosanitary Products for Agricultural Use
2. The container holding the formulated phytosanitary products is required to bear a complete label or a basic label with a brochure that contains all the required information. The labels must include the following information:
- product category or class;
- nomenclature indicating the chemical group name, making reference to the place and mode of action of each of the active ingredients used for the control of weeds, pests and diseases;
- registered or proposed trade name of the product;
- formulation type in accordance with the corresponding valid nomenclature: IRAM 12074 standard;
- on a voluntary basis, a sentence summarising the characteristics of the product;
- product composition in accordance with certain parameters;
- a legend stating 'READ THE LABEL BEFORE USING THE PRODUCT';
- registration number assigned by National Food Safety and Quality Service of Argentina;
- batch number;
- expiry date;
- industry/origin;
- net content;
- degree of flammability; and
- name, address and telephone number of registering company, including the company logo, website or e-mail, whenever applicable.
3. Labels must also include (i) recommendations for use, including a general description of the product without using any laudatory statements or highlighting its attributes, and (ii) directions for use.
4. The use of pictograms and legends is mandatory for all toxicological classes. Colour code, pictorial symbols, signal word, label colour, stamps or statements and fonts indicating the toxicological category of the product must comply with certain requirements. Moreover, the text must be legible and written in Spanish, except for the trade name.
5. Companies holding a registration for a formulated phytosanitary product must submit a sample label for evaluation and approval by 26 August 2015. Once a label is approved, companies will have 60 days to declare their stock of remaining labels and use those labels before a designated date.
