Commercial Information Circular No. 888/2014

Mexico : New Standards for Lighters

The Mexican government has recently established new safety standardsfor portable, disposable and refillable lighters. The safety requirements for lighters under NOM-090-SCFI-2014 apply to domestically-produced and imported lighters for cigarettes, cigar and pipes.

DETAILS

2.The new safety standards include technical provisions covering various areas such as flame generation, flame height and flame height adjustments, flame extinction, etc. It also includes requirements regarding sampling, test methods, commercial information and conformity assessment. The new standards will enter into force on 28 December 2014, with the exception of the flame generation provisions which will be implemented on 1 January 2016.
