25 July 2014

Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 694/2014

US : EPA's Significant New Use Rules on Certain Chemical Substances

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) promulgated in the Federal Register (FR) notices of 8 July and 9 July 2014 the final rules for imposing new import restrictions on 56 chemical substances that were the subject of pre-manufacture notices. The effective date of the final rules is 8 September 2014.

DETAILS

2.Under the new rules, persons who intend to import, manufacture or process any of these 56 chemical substances for an activity that is designated as a significant new use by these rules will have to notify EPA at least 90 days before commencing that activity. This notification will provide EPA with the opportunity to evaluate the intended use and, if necessary, to prohibit or limit that activity before it occurs. For details, please refer to the FR notices at: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2014-07-08/pdf/2014-15874.pdf and https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2014/07/09/2014-15774/significant-new-use-rules-on-certain-chemical-substances.
