Dear Sirs,
Commercial Information Circular No. 535/2014
US : Rules and Regulations under the Wool Products Labelling Act
The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) amended its rules and regulations under the Wool Products Labelling Act of 1939 (the "Wool Rules") to conform to the requirements of the Wool Suit Fabric Labelling Fairness and International Standards Conforming Act, which revised the labelling requirements for cashmere and certain other wool products, and align with the amended rules and regulations under the Textile Fiber Products Identification Act. The amendments will take effect on 7 July 2014.
2.The key changes to the Wool Rules include:
- incorporation of new definitions for cashmere and very fine wools;
- clarification on the descriptions for products containing virgin or new wool; and
- allowing certain hand-tags with fiber trademarks and performance information, even if they do not disclose the full fiber content.
3.For details, traders are advised to refer to the Federal Register at: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2014-06-04/pdf/2014-12736.pdf.
