Brazil: Advance Notice of Discontinuation of Drug Imports
The National Agency for Health Surveillance ("Agencia Nacional de Vigilancia Sanitaria" in Portuguese/ANVISA) of Brazil issued Resolution No. 18/2014 on 14 April 2014 requiring producers and importers of drugs to give advance notice before discontinuation of production and import of drugs with immediate effect.
2.Producers and importers have to provide 180-day advance notice to ANVISA before temporary or permanent discontinuation of drug production or imports, and at least 12-month notice if such discontinuation will cause shortage to the Brazilian market. In the case of unexpected discontinuation, producers and importers have to inform ANVISA within 72 hours.
