Brazil : Establishment of Tolerance Limits for Foreign Substances in Food and Beverages
The National Agency for Health Surveillance ("Agencia Nacional de Vigilancia Sanitaria" in Portuguese/ANVISA) of Brazil issued Resolution No. 14/2014 on 28 March 2014 to establish tolerance limits for foreign substances in food and beverages with immediate effect. Foreign substances refer to microscopic fragments that may be present during the food production process and may not be completely removed even with the adoption of best practices, but may pose risks to human health. The tolerance limits for foreign substances in food and beverages are set out in Annexes A and B of Resolution No. 14/2014.
