Commercial Information Circular No. 372/2014

Brazil: Modification of Import Tariffs and Establishment of Tariff Rate Quotas on Various Products

The Brazilian government has modified the import tariffs of a number of products, and established tariff rate quotas on certain imports.  A summary of the changes is set out as follows:

  1. Certain information technology and telecommunication goods classified in Southern Common Market (Mercosur ) Common Classification (NCM) chapters 84-85 and 90 would benefit from a reduced duty of 2% from 17 March 2014 to 31 December 2015.
  2. Certain information technology and telecommunication goods classified in NCM codes 8528.49.21 Ex 002 and 9030.89.90 Ex 013 would benefit from duty-free treatment from 17 March 2014 to 31 December 2015.
  3. Certain capital goods classified in NCM chapters 73, 82, 84-87, 89 and 90 would benefit from a reduced duty of 2% from 17 March 2014 until 31 December 2015.
  4. Import tariffs of 282,500 tonnes of methanol under NCM code 2905.11.00 would benefit from duty-free treatment from 5 April 2014 to 2 October 2014.  Imports exceeding the quota will be subject to the normal tariff rate of 12%.
  5. Import tariffs of 80 units of certain fire engines under NCM code 8705.30.00 Ex 001 would benefit from duty-free treatment from 17 March 2014 to 16 March 2015.  Imports exceeding the quota will be subject to the normal tariff rate of 35%.
