Commercial Information Circular No. 235/2014

Chile : Nutritional Information on Food Labels

Pursuant to Commercial Information Circular No. 579/2012 of 26 July 2012 regarding the requirments to include all product ingredients in food labels, the Chilean government issued a Decree No. 2/2013 on 17 December 2013 to set out the new labelling requirement regarding the nutritional information of the food products and its advertising.

2.Packaged food for direct consumption containing calories, simple sugars, saturated fat or sodium exceeding the specified thresholds must attach a permanent label or stamp informing consumers of such information, such as "high in sodium" ("Alto en Sodio" in Spanish), "high fat" ("Alto en Grasas" in Spanish) or "high in sugar" ("Alto en Azúcares" in Spanish).

3.The effective dates for the labelling requirement in respect of the following nutrition are as follows:

Nutrition Effective Date
Saturated fat 17 June 2014
Simple sugar 17 December 2014
Calories or sodium 17 June 2015
