Mexico : Labelling Requirement for Food and Non-alcoholic Beverages Modified

The Mexican government recently issued a presidential decree to modify the labelling requirement for food and non-alcoholic beverages.

DETAILS

2.In addition to the current labelling requirements, pre-packaged food and non-alcoholic beverages will be required to include on the frontal area of the product their total energy content in calories or kilocalories and the saturated fat, other fat, total sugar and sodium content of the product.

3.Excluded from this requirement are water for human consumption, food for infants and young children, sugar-free chewing gum, sugar-free breath mints, flour other than prepared flour, products and raw materials intended exclusively for use and internal consumption of institutions, and industrial raw materials.

4.The presidential decree entered into force on 15 February 2014 and will apply from 15 February 2015, although producers may request an additional year on a product-by-product basis to comply with those requirements.
