US : Energy Conservation Standards for Metal Halide Lamp Fixtures and External Power Supplies

The United States Department of Energy (DOE) published in the Federal Register (FR) of 10 February 2014 two final rules on energy conservation standards for metal halide lamp fixtures and external power supplies.

  • In this final rule, DOE is adopting more stringent energy conservation standards for metal halide lamp fixtures.
  • The standards are minimum allowable ballast efficiencies based on fixture location, ballast type and rated lamp wattage.
  • Effective date of this rule is 11 April 2014.  Compliance with the standards established in the rule is required by 10 February 2017.
External power supplies http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2014-02-10/pdf/2014-02560.pdf
  • This final rule amends energy conservation standards currently apply to certain external power supplies and establishes new energy conservation standards for other external power supplies that are currently not required to meet such standards.
  • The standards are minimum average energy efficiency during active mode, and maximum power consumption level during no-load mode.
  • Effective date of this rule is 11 April 2014.  Compliance with the standards established in the rule is required by 10 February 2016.
