Commercial Information Circular No. 1012/2014

Brazil : Establishment of Tariff Rate Quota on Various Products and Modification of Import Tariffs

The Brazilian government has established tariff rate quotas on certain imports, and modified the import tariffs of a number of products.  A summary of the changes is set out as follows:

  1. The following products would be removed from the list of exemptions to the Mercosur common external tariff with effect from 1 October 2014:

  1. Tariff rate quotas were established or modified on certain imports which would enjoy reduced or zero import tariff treatment.  A summary of the changes is set out as follows:

  1. Certain information technology and telecommunications goods classified under NCM chapters 84 and 85 would benefit from a reduced duty of 2% from 8 October 2014 until 31 December 2015.
  1. Certain capital goods classified under NCM chapters 82, 84-87, 89 and 90 would benefit from a reduced duty of 2% from 8 October 2014 until 31 December 2015.
  1. The tariff rate quota on partially oriented polyester yarn classified under NCM code 5402.46.00 has been extended from 14 October 2014 to 13 April 2015.  In-quota imports will benefit from a reduced duty of 2%, while out-of-quota tariff rate is 18%.
