Mexico : Amendments to Textile and Apparel Labelling Requirements
The Mexican authority published a resolution in the Official Gazette (Diario Oficial de la Federacion) of 23 December 2011 amending certain textile and apparel labelling requirements. DETAILS
2.The resolution amends certain labelling requirements as set out in the Mexican official standard NOM-004-SCFI-2006 for textiles and apparel. Major amendments are as follows -
incorporating references to NMX-A-099-INNTEX-2007 and NMX-A-240-INNTEX-2009;
updating definitions in NOM-004-SCFI-2006;
clarifying that the commercial information required must be presented in Spanish;
clarifying that when the lining is made of the same material as the item of clothing, it is not necessary to declare information relating to the lining;
allowing fibres that make up less than 5% of the total to be labelled as "other" fibres;
clarifying coverage of the term "wool";
clarifying the 3% tolerance rule;
clarifying requirements concerning the care and preservation instructions;
allowing the country of origin to be expressed in Spanish or in accordance with the designated country codes.
3.The amendments will be effective from 21 February 2012.
