Commercial Information Circular No. 579/2011

US : CPSC's Final Rule on Standard for the Flammability of Mattresses and Mattress Pads

The trade was informed via Commercial Information Circular No. 501/2010 that the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) invited comments on a proposed rule to amend its standard for flammability of mattresses and mattress pads. The CPSC issued in the Federal Register (FR) of 23 September 2011 a final rule to adopt the amendment without changes. The Standard for the Flammability of Mattresses and Mattress Pads, Title 16, Code of Federal Regulations, part 1632 (16 CFR part 1632) is amended to specify a standard reference material cigarette (SRM 1196), which is developed by and is available for purchase from the National Institute of Standards and Technology, as the ignition source for testing.
