Dear Sirs,
Commercial Information Circular No. 532/2008
US : Frequently Asked Questions on General Conformity Certification Requirements
The trade was informed via Commercial Information Circular No. 515/2008 about the general conformity certification requirements in the US which would go into effect on 12 November 2008. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has recently posted on its website a document listing frequently asked questions (FAQs) on the general conformity certification requirements. Interested parties may refer to the attached Annex (pdf format) or the website of CPSC at http://www.cpsc.gov/about/cpsia/faq/elecertfaq.pdf for details.
-
The document includes a "sample" certificate, instructions and FAQs for completing the general certification of conformity. It is stated in the document that the "sample" certificate, instructions and FAQs are unofficial descriptions and interpretations of various features of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA) and do not replace or supersede the statutory requirements of the CPSIA. The document was prepared by CPSC staff, has not been reviewed or approved by, and may not necessarily reflect the views of, the CPSC. The document may be subject to change based on CPSC action.
-
Traders are strongly advised to seek clarifications with their importers in the US in order to comply with the necessary requirements. Traders can also submit questions to CPSC direct for their advice via the CPSC's web-based form available on its website at http://www.cpsc.gov/cgibin/newleg.aspx.
