Commercial Information Circular No. 417/2008

Canada : Enforcement Dates of Ontario Regulation 218/01 (Upholstered and Stuffed Articles) for Padded Undergarments and Shoulder Pads and Trim

Further to Commercial Information Circular No. 396/2008 of 1 August 2008, we learnt from the Director's Bulletin dated 1 August 2008 from the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) regarding the exemption extension for shoulder pads and trim. The Director's Bulletin states that the Upholstered and Stuffed Articles Safety Program will work with manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers of shoulder pads and trim to assist in the transition and it is expected that all shoulder pads and trim and those involved in their manufacture, importation, distribution or retailing will be in full compliance with the requirement of the Ontario Regulation 218/01 (Upholstered and Stuffed Articles) by 1 July 2009.

We also learnt from the Director's Bulletin dated 1 January 2008 from TSSA that the Upholstered and Stuffed Articles Safety Program will work with manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers of padded undergarments to assist in the transition and it is expected that all padded undergarments and those involved in their manufacture, importation, distribution or retailing will be in full compliance with the requirement of the Ontario Regulation 218/01 (Upholstered and Stuffed Articles) by 1 January 2009. Copies (pdf format) of the two bulletins are appended to this circular for reference.
