Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 201/2008

US : Standard for the Flammability of Clothing Textiles

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced in the Federal Register (FR) notice of 25 March 2008 that the flammability standard for clothing textiles ("the standard") will be amended with effect from 22 September 2008.

DETAILS

  1.
  2. We promulgated in Commercial Information Circular No. 101/2007 dated 1 March 2007 that CPSC sought public comments on a proposal for amending the existing flammability standard for general wearing apparel1 . CPSC has now decided to introduce several revisions to the standard to better reflect current consumer practices/technologies and make clarifications regarding the standard. The major changes include, for example:
  1. update of the flammability tester requirement;
  2. revision of the refurbishing methods;
  3. revision of the test procedures; and
  4. clarification on test result interpretation and reporting.
  1. Because of the bulkiness of the FR notice, it is not appended to this circular. Interested parties may download it from the following website for reference:
