Dear Sirs,
Commercial Information Circular No. 151/2004
US : CBP Announced Commencement of Phase Three of Bioterrorism Act - Prior Notice Enforcement
Further to Commercial Information Circular (CIC) No. 131/2004 dated 20 May 2004, the US Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has announced that beginning on 4 June 2004 at 6 am (US Eastern time), it will implement the third phase of the enforcement plan of the prior notice requirement of the Bioterrorism Act (BTA).
2. Phase Three of the enforcement plan requires that CBP and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) receive prior notice of all food for humans and animals imported or offered for import into the US. Failure to provide prior notice will result in the merchandise being refused entry. Goods that have not given prior notification will be held at the port of entry or at a FDA registered secure facility.
