Trade Statistics

The United States of America, the Mainland of China and Germany were the top three leading importers in world merchandise trade in 2023, with the imports values of US$3,173 billion, US$2,557 billion and US$1,463 billion respectively. Their corresponding shares in world total imports were 13.1%, 10.6% and 6.0%.

The Netherlands ranked the fourth in world imports (accounting for 3.5%) and the United Kingdom ranked the fifth (at 3.3%) in the same year. This was followed by France and Japan (both at 3.2%), India (at 2.8%), Hong Kong and Korea (both at 2.7%), Italy and Mexico (both at 2.6%), Canada (at 2.4%), Belgium (at 2.3%) and Spain (at 1.9%).

In 2023, Hong Kong ranked the fourth largest importers after the Mainland, Japan and India in the region. The imports value of Hong Kong was US$654 billion, accounting for 2.7% of world total imports at US$24,235 billion.
