Dear Sirs,

TRADE AND INDUSTRY DEPARTMENT CIRCULAR

UNITED NATIONS SANCTIONS AGAINST
THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF KOREA

This is to announce for general information that the United Nations Security Council adopted United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2397 to implement further sanction measures against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (i.e. North Korea) on 22 December 2017.

2.UNSCR 2397 can be viewed at (https://www.un.org/sc/suborg/en/sanctions/1718/resolutions). UNSCR 2397 prohibits, among others, the supply, sale and transfer to and/or the procurement from North Korea of certain items. Such prohibited items and the relevant extracts from the UNSCR are set out in the Annex (pdf format).

3.In addition, Trade and Industry Department Circular (Ref: TRA CR 1006/12), issued on 4 December 2017, sets out other sanction measures against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea under UNSCRs 2270, 2321, 2371 and 2375.

WARNING

4.The United Nations Sanctions (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) Regulation (Cap. 537 AE) will be amended to implement the new sanction measures. If you are engaging in any activities prohibited by United Nations Security Council (including those under UNSCRs 2270, 2321, 2371, 2375 or 2397), we strongly urge you to immediately cease such act to avoid violation of the UNSCRs. Trade and industrial organisations are recommended to remind members of the sanction measures. If you are in doubt about any of the sanction measures in the UNSCRs and their effect on your organization's activities, you may find it prudent to seek legal advice.
