Hong Kong - Peru Trade Relations
PERU AND HONG KONG ARE IMPORTANT TRADING PARTNERS
- In 2023, Peru was Hong Kong's 5th largest trading partner in Latin America and 46th worldwide. Hong Kong was Peru's 36th largest trading partner in 2023.
- In 2023, bilateral merchandise trade between Peru and Hong Kong increased by 1.2% over 2022, amounted to HK$5,231.2 million. The average annual growth rate from 2019 to 2023 was 4.0%.
- Hong Kong imported HK$1,690.2 million worth of goods from Peru in 2023. Major imports included vegetables and fruit; fish (not marine mammals), crustaceans, molluscs and aquatic invertebrates, and preparations thereof; and watches and clocks.
- In 2023, Hong Kong's domestic exports of goods to Peru amounted to HK$5.0 million. Major domestic exports to Peru included plastics in non-primary forms; non-ferrous metals; and textile yarn, fabrics, made-up articles, and related products.
- Hong Kong's re-exports of goods to Peru totalled HK$3,536.0 million in 2023. Major re-exports were telecommunications equipment; office machines and automatic data processing machines; and electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances, and electrical parts thereof.
HONG KONG IS AN IMPORTANT ENTREPÔT FOR SINO-PERU TRADE
- Hong Kong is an important entrepôt for merchandise trade between Peru and Mainland China. In 2023, about HK$4,533.8 million, representing around 1.5% of the total trade between Peru and Mainland China, was routed through Hong Kong.
HONG KONG IS AN IMPORTANT LOCATION FOR PERUVIAN INTERESTS
- Hong Kong is a separate customs territory and participates in the World Trade Organization as a full and separate member, using the name "Hong Kong, China".
- Hong Kong welcomes overseas investment and offers an environment in which there is a free flow of capital and return on investment without exchange controls.
