Seminar to explore global financial crisis and recovery from regional co-operation perspective
Monday, January 11, 2010

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation:

The Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation (HKCPEC) and the Trade and Industry Department (TID) will jointly organise a seminar on "The Global Financial Crisis and Recovery: a Regional Co-operation Perspective" on January 27 (Wednesday).

The global financial crisis brought about unprecedented challenges to the global economy. While the worldwide economic situation has eased recently, the recovery remains fragile. The speakers at the seminar will discuss the impact of the financial crisis on regional co-operation in the Asia-Pacific region, including economic and political co-operation, and explore the role of the Asia-Pacific in the post-crisis global economic order.

The speakers will include Vice-President of Lingnan University, Professor Jesús Seade; Managing Director of Li & Fung Group, Dr William Fung; Deputy Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury (Financial Services), Mr Cheng Yan-chee; Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost of the University of Hong Kong, Professor Richard Wong; and Chairman of the MTR Corporation Limited, Dr Raymond Ch'ien Kuo-fung. They will share their thoughts on how the post-crisis regional landscape will bring opportunities and challenges. The Chairman of the HKCPEC, Professor Sung Yun-wing, will give welcoming and closing remarks.

The seminar will be held on January 27 from 9am to 12.30pm at South Pacific Hotel Hong Kong, 23 Morrison Hill Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong. It will be conducted in English. Admission is free.
