TID to participate in World SME Expo
Wednesday, December 2, 2009

The Trade and Industry Department will participate in the "HKTDC World SME Expo" at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre Hall 1 from tomorrow to Saturday (December 3-5).

This annual expo, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), aims to help Hong Kong's small and medium enterprises (SMEs) enter the international market. It offers a one-stop platform for service providers to promote their services and business solutions to SMEs, with a view to helping the SMEs seek business opportunities and expand their business.

As one of the supporting organisations and a major exhibitor, the Trade and Industry Department will showcase an array of its SME supporting services, including the SME Funding Schemes, Support and Consultation Centre for SMEs (SUCCESS), Hong Kong Awards for Industries, Working Group on Industrial, Commercial and Professional Sectors under the Basic Law Promotion Steering Committee, and the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA). Business professionals and expert consultants will provide free onsite one-on-one business advisory services to visiting SMEs on questions concerning business start-up, marketing, legal, and accounting matters.

The department will also take part in the following two free thematic seminars of the expo to introduce its support services for SMEs:

Date and Time Topic Venue
December 4 (Friday) 4.30pm SME Financing Seminar Room F
December 5 (Saturday) 10.30am Starting Up a Business Seminar Room D

The highlight of this year's expo is a high-level conference tomorrow (December 3) jointly organised by the Trade and Industry Department and the HKTDC entitled "Brand-building - Opening up the Ten Trillion Mainland Domestic Market". Eminent entrepreneurs and industry players from the Mainland and Hong Kong will give keynote speeches and join the panel discussion to share their strategies and successful experience in tapping the Mainland market, including practical tips for building successful brands. The conference will start at 2pm at Seminar Room F. Admission is free.
