43rd meeting of Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation:

The 43rd Meeting of the Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation (HKCPEC) to be held next Friday (April 24) will be open to the public. 

The Chairman of the HKCPEC, Professor Sung Yun-wing, will chair the meeting. Major discussion items include forthcoming events of the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC); HKCPEC report for the PECC Standing Committee; conclusion of the Youth Learning Project on Pacific Economic Cooperation 2008/09; HKCPEC's work plan for 2009/10; and outcomes of the First Senior Officials' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation held in Singapore in February.

The meeting will be held at 10am in Room 1814, 18/F, Trade and Industry Department Tower, 700 Nathan Road, Mong Kok, Kowloon.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting. In view of limited seating capacity at the meeting venue, admission to the meeting will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

Those interested in attending the meeting are requested to enrol with the HKCPEC Secretariat by noon next Tuesday (April 21).

The HKCPEC was established in March 1990, to co-ordinate Hong Kong's participation in the PECC. In line with the nature of the PECC, composition of the HKCPEC is tripartite, comprising members from the government, academia and the business sector.

PECC is a non-governmental organisation set up in 1980 with the purpose of developing closer co-operation in trade and economic issues among economies in the region.

Currently, PECC has 26 member committees, of which 23 are full members representing the economies of Australia; Brunei Darussalam; Canada; Chile; China; Colombia; Ecuador; Hong Kong, China; Indonesia; Japan; Korea; Malaysia; Mexico; Mongolia; New Zealand; the Pacific Islands Forum; Peru; the Philippines; Singapore; Chinese Taipei; Thailand; the United States; and Vietnam. PECC also has one associate member, France (Pacific Territories); and two institutional members including the Pacific Trade and Development Conference and Pacific Basin Economic Council.
