Press Release 2009

61 companies honoured at 2008 Hong Kong Awards for Industries
Wednesday, January 21, 2009

Sixty-one companies were honoured today (January 21) at the 2008 Hong Kong Awards for Industries (HKAI) presentation ceremony and gala dinner at which the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, officiated.

The HKAI is the only one of its kind that is championed by the Government to recognise various aspects of excellence in enterprises in both the manufacturing and services sectors.

Mr Tsang said at the ceremony that tonight's award winners were no doubt the trendsetters in their respective categories. He was particularly encouraged to see that the participating entries were diverse in nature, and that a number of them were from small and medium enterprises.

A total of 245 entries were received, covering a wide range of industrial and business sectors. The winners were decided by the final judging panels chaired by Professor Lap-Chee Tsui.

Launched in 2005, the HKAI merged the former Hong Kong Awards for Industry and the former Hong Kong Awards for Services, established in 1989 and 1997 respectively. The award recognises Hong Kong enterprises for their outstanding achievements, particularly in moving towards higher technology or higher value-added activities.

The award covers seven categories - the consumer product design category organised by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries; machinery and machine tools design category organised by the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong; customer service category organised by the Hong Kong Retail Management Association; environmental performance category organised by the Business Environment Council; innovation and creativity category organised by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce; productivity and quality category organised by the Hong Kong Productivity Council; and technological achievement category organised by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation.

The Grand Award winners of the 2008 HKAI were: C Enterprise Ltd. (consumer product design), Automatic Manufacturing Limited (machinery and machine tools design), Sino Estate Management Ltd - Pacific Palisades (customer service), Leo Paper Group (Hong Kong) Ltd (environmental performance), Toy2R (Holdings) Company Limited (innovation and creativity), The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (productivity and quality) and Dunwell Engineering Company Limited (technological achievement).
