42nd meeting of Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation:

The 42nd Meeting of the Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation (HKCPEC) to be held next Tuesday (September 23) will be open to the public. The meeting will be held at 3pm in Room 1814, 18/F, Trade and Industry Department Tower, 700 Nathan Road, Mong Kok, Kowloon.

The Chairman of the HKCPEC, Prof Sung Yun-wing, will chair the meeting. Major items to be discussed include a report on the HKCPEC's participation in recent Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC) events, latest progress of the Youth Learning Project on Pacific Economic Cooperation 2008/09, the PECC Internship Program, and outcomes of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting. In view of limited seating capacity at the meeting venue, admission is on a first-come-first-served basis.

Those interested in attending the meeting are requested to enrol with the HKCPEC Secretariat by noon this Friday (September 19).

The HKCPEC was established in March 1990 to co-ordinate Hong Kong's participation in the PECC. In line with the nature of the PECC, the HKCPEC is tripartite, comprising members from the government, academia and the business sector.

The PECC is a non-governmental organisation set up in 1980 to develop closer co-operation in trade and economic issues among economies in the region.

Currently, the PECC has a total of 26 member committees, of which 23 are full members representing the economies of Australia; Brunei Darussalam; Canada; Chile; China; Colombia; Ecuador; Hong Kong, China; Indonesia; Japan; Korea; Malaysia; Mexico; Mongolia; New Zealand; the Pacific Islands Forum; Peru; the Philippines; Singapore; Chinese Taipei; Thailand; the United States; and Vietnam. PECC also has one associate member representing France (Pacific Territories), and two institutional members which are the Pacific Trade and Development Conference and Pacific Basin Economic Council.
