66 companies honoured at 2007 Hong Kong Awards for Industries

Sixty-six companies were honoured today (January 23) at the 2007 Hong Kong Awards for Industries (HKAI) presentation ceremony and gala dinner at which the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang officiated.

HKAI was officially launched in 2005 by merging the former Hong Kong Awards for Industry and Hong Kong Awards for Services, established in 1989 and 1997 respectively. The awards scheme covers seven categories - the consumer product design category organised by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries; machinery and equipment design category organised by the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong; customer service category organised by the Hong Kong Retail Management Association; environmental performance category organised by the Business Environment Council; innovation and creativity category organised by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce; productivity and quality category organised by the Hong Kong Productivity Council; and technological achievement category organised by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. 

The Organising Committee of the HKAI, chaired by the director-general of Trade and Industry, with members coming from different trade and industrial organisations and industrial support bodies in Hong Kong, provides overall co-ordination of the scheme. 

A total of 330 entries were received for 2007 HKAI, covering a wide range of industrial and business sectors. The winners were decided by the final judging panels chaired by Prof Poon Chung-kwong.

The Grand Award winners of 2007 HKAI were : Protronic (Far East) Ltd (Consumer Product Design), Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Co. Ltd. (Customer Service), The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Environmental Performance), Solomon Systech Limited (Productivity and Quality) and Altai Technologies Limited (Technological Achievement).
