Monday, February 5, 2007

Sixty-nine companies were honoured today (February 5) at the 2006 Hong Kong Awards for Industries (HKAI) Awards Presentation Ceremony and Gala Dinner at which Financial Secretary Mr Henry Tang officiated.

HKAI was officially launched in 2005. The awards scheme recognises outstanding Hong Kong enterprises for their achievements, particularly in moving towards higher technology or higher value-added activities.

The awards scheme covers seven categories - the consumer product design category organised by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries; machinery and equipment design category organised by the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong; customer service category organised by the Hong Kong Retail Management Association; environmental performance category organised by the Business Environment Council; innovation and creativity category organised by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce; productivity and quality category organised by the Hong Kong Productivity Council; and technological achievement category organised by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation.

The overall co-ordination of the scheme is provided by the Organising Committee of the HKAI which is chaired by the Director-General of Trade and Industry, with members coming from different trade and industrial organisations and industrial support bodies in Hong Kong.

A total of 308 entries were received, covering a wide range of industrial and business sectors. The judging process in each award category was carried out by the individual judging panels. The winning companies were endorsed at a joint judging session led by Prof Poon Chung-kwong, Chairman of the Final Judging Panels.

The Grand Award winners were: Manley Toys Limited (Consumer Product Design), Standard Chartered Bank (HK) Limited (Customer Service), Fook Tin Technologies Limited (Environmental Performance), California Red Limited (Innovation and Creativity), WKK Technology Limited (Productivity and Quality) and Genetel Pharmaceuticals Limited (Technological Achievement).
