Press Release
Meeting held with NGOs in October to discuss activities in public areas
Saturday, September 24, 2005
In response to press enquiries about arrangements for public activities conducted by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) during the World Trade Organisations (WTO) Sixth Ministerial Conference, Miss Janet Wong, Head of the WTO Sixth Ministerial Conference Co-ordination Office (MCO) said today (September 24 ) that the MCO had in the past held meetings with NGOs with a view to facilitating activities being conducted in a orderly manner and with least disruption to the public.
"Noting that the NGOs will need time to make the necessary arrangements beforehand, the inter-departmental committee set up to consider applications from NGOs for holding MC6-related public activities during the Conference (including inter alia public forums, cultural performances and bazaars) will meet shortly to consider the applications. We hope to let the concerned NGOs know the broad arrangements in October," Miss Wong said.
As regards detailed arrangements regarding demonstrations and the drawing up of procession routes during the Conference period, the Police will meet the concerned NGOs to discuss.
