A Seminar to help SMEs become suppliers of goods and services to the Government
Tuesday, January 15, 2002

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) which wish to know more on how to become a supplier of goods or services to the Government are invited to attend a seminar on "Bidding for Government Procurement Contracts by SMEs" on January 30.

The seminar, jointly organised by the Support and Consultation Centre for SMEs (SUCCESS) of the Trade and Industry Department (TID) and Hong Kong Productivity Council's (HKPC) SME Centre, will be held from 2.30 pm to 5 pm at the Exhibition Hall, 4/F, HKPC Building, 78 Tat Chee Avenue, Kowloon (MTR Kowloon Tong Station Exit C1).

The Government is the largest local purchaser of a great variety of goods and services. Most of these goods and services purchased and hired by the Government are indeed SMEs' line of business. The purpose of the seminar is to help SMEs familiarise with Government's procurement and tender procedures, the technique of preparing tender documents, and the channels of submission, with a view to encouraging them to bid for Government procurement contracts.

At the seminar, Mr Gregory Leung, Director of Government Supplies, will introduce Government procurement and tender procedures. Mr Chan Chun-tan, Principal Supplies Officer (Systems Administration), will demonstrate how to use the electronic tendering system.

Also, Miss Jenny Yip, Assistant Director-General of Trade and Industry, will brief participants on the World Trade Organization Agreement on Government Procurement. Mr Gordon Lo, Principal Consultant of HKPC, will speak on current enabling technology on e-procurement.

The seminar will be conducted in Cantonese. Admission is free of charge. For enquiry, please call SUCCESS at 2398 5596 or 2398 5142. Details of the seminar can also be found at the Virtual SME Information Centre at http://www.sme.gcn.gov.hk
