TID launches a newsletter to help SMEs feel the pulse of the business environment

Sunday, November 17, 2002

The Trade and Industry Department (TID) will launch the inaugural issue of a newsletter for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) tomorrow (November 18).

The newsletter, called "the Pulse", will be distributed free at TID's Support and Consultation Centre for SMEs (SUCCESS).  Clients of SUCCESS and recipients of SME funding schemes will receive the newsletter by mail.  Copies of the newsletter will be available at major trade and industrial associations, industry support organisations, and public libraries.  Members of the public may also read the newsletter at the website of SUCCESS (www.success.tid.gov.hk).  About 10 000 copies will be published.

"Pulse is the symbol of vitality and dynamism.  So are SMEs in Hong Kong, which account for about 98% of local business establishments and employ about 60% of the private sector employment.  The newsletter aims to help SMEs feel the pulse of the business environment more readily," a TID spokesman said.

The newsletter will be a useful source of information to SMEs.  The inaugural issue will contain feature articles on Hong Kong's bakery industry, the success story of a young entrepreneur in the fashion retail business, the 2002 Hong Kong Awards for Industry, and the Mentorship Programme for SMEs.  It will cover the setting up of the Commercial Credit Reference Agency, credit scoring, and franchise businesses in Hong Kong.  Also, there will be information on Government's SME support measures and services, and forthcoming SME activities.

The newsletter will be published every six months.  While hard copies are in Chinese, selected articles are in both English and Chinese at the website.
