SME Information Centre provides first stop information services to SMEs
Monday, January 1, 2001

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) operators are welcome to visit the Small and Medium Enterprises Information Centre (the Centre) of the Trade and Industry Department.

Opened on August 30, 1999 and relocated to Room 07, M/F, Trade and Industry Department Tower, 700 Nathan Road, Mong Kok, Kowloon on July 1, 2000, the Centre provides information services on government business licences, services and facilities currently provided by government and industry support organizations to SMEs, as well as tariff rates of other economies.

"By handling personal enquiries, the Centre helps SMEs comply with business licensing regulations and gain access to the support programmes that are relevant to their needs. The Centre has been gaining popularity among SMEs operators since its opening." said a spokesman for the Trade and Industry Department.

Useful business-related reference materials can also be found in a mini-library located inside the Centre.

The Centre also runs a Virtual SME Information Centre (http://www.success.tid.gov.hk) and a Business Licence Information Service (http://www.licence.tid.gov.hk/) on the Internet. The former disseminates information on SME supporting organizations and their services and facilities as well as forthcoming events and activities. The latter enables visitors to search for information on government licences, permits, certificates and approvals that businesses are required to have in order to operate and provides them with downloadable application forms.

In collaboration with other organizations, the Centre sets to launch a series of seminars to help SMEs resolve problems at different stages of their development. The first of these seminars, to be held on January 18, 2001, will be on SMEs loan applications.

All services provided by the Centre are free of charge. It is open to the public from 8.45 am to 12.30 pm; and 1.30 pm to 5.15 pm from Mondays to Fridays. The opening hours on Saturdays are from 9 am to 12.30 pm. The Centre is closed on Sundays and public holidays.

Enquiries can be made by visiting the Centre personally, calling the Centre at 2398 5133, or by sending electronic mail to licenceenq@tid.gov.hk (business licence information service) and smeenq@tid.gov.hk (other enquiries).
