Improved Services of the Trade and Industry Department for Traders
Friday, July 13, 2001

The Trade and Industry Department (TID) today (July 13) introduced a number of improved services for textiles traders registered under various control schemes and those using the licensing and certification services of the Department. Amendment to the Import and Export (Fees) Regulations under the Import and Export Ordinance, (Chapter 60) have been made to pave the way for such improved services.

With immediate effect, textiles traders having multiple registrations under the Textiles Controls Registration (TCR), the Factory Registration (FR) and the Textiles Trader Registration (TTR) schemes with different expiry dates can choose to renew some or all of the registrations in one-go under a combined registration. Henceforth, the respective registrations will remain valid until a common expiry date.

¡§This arrangement can relieve traders from renewing different registrations at different times of a year and having to provide multiple sets of supporting documents for each of the registration schemes," a spokesman for the TID said.

"Moreover, starting today, all new registrations under any of the three schemes will be valid for a 12-month period following approval. This allows traders paying an annual registration fee to enjoy a full year service under the registration."

"In addition, from now on, traders lodging paper applications for textiles licensing and certification services of TID would be able to pay relevant application fees in cash or through the Easy Pay System (EPS). Traders are now at their liberty to choose whichever payment method that will most suit their needs, whether in the form of postage stamps, in cash or through EPS. This would bring more convenience to the trade," said the spokesman.

The spokesman added that TID would continue to review and improve its services to the trade.

The Department will inform traders of the details of the improved services by circulars and notices to exporters.
