Trade Department renamed Trade and Industry Department on July 1
Saturday, July 1, 2000

The Trade Department has expanded its services and has been renamed Trade and Industry Department (TID) with effect from July 1. It has taken over from the former Industry Department general support services for the industrial sector and small and medium-sized enterprises.

"After the re-organization, the TID will become the single front-line department serving our clients in both trade and industry," said the Director-General of Trade and Industry, Mr Joshua Law.

"Consolidating support services under one department would create synergy, improve efficiency and provide more convenient one-stop services to traders and industrialists." he added.

From July 1 onwards, all licences, certificates, notifications and related documents issued by the Department will be made in the name of the Trade and Industry Department under the authority of the Director-General of Trade and Industry.

In order to allow time for members of the public and the Department to run down their stocks, the Department will continue to accept and issue forms bearing printed references to old titles until further notice.

Notwithstanding this, all references to "Trade Department" and "Director-General of Trade" in forms and related documents (including electronic messages) submitted or issued on or after July 1, 2000 shall be deemed as references to "Trade and Industry Department" and "Director-General of Trade and Industry".

TID's new website is at http://www.tid.gov.hk and the Department's new e-mail address is: enquriy@tid.gov.hk

On the other hand, the Small and Medium Enterprises Information Centre has come under the Trade and Industry Department with effect from July 1. The Centre has been relocated to the Trade and Industry Department Tower on the same date. Its new address and telephone number are as follows:

Address: Room M07, M/F, Trade and Industry Department Tower, 700 Nathan Road, Mong Kok, Kowloon.

Enquiry hotline: 2398 5133

Facsimile: 2737 2377

The Centre is opened to visitors from Mondays to Fridays from 8:45 am - 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm - 5:15 pm; and from 9:00 am - 12:30 pm on Saturdays.
