This is to take on board the initiative as set out in the Chief Executive's Policy Address in October this year. The Committee is requested to put forward practical recommendations to the Chief Executive within six months.

The Secretary for Commerce and Industry, Mr CHAU Tak-hay, thanked the Chairman and members of the new SMEC for accepting this important and challenging task. He said: "SMEs in Hong Kong are renowned for their flexibility, perseverance and adaptability and are a significant force in our economic development. I am confident that under the chairmanship of Mr Chan Wing-kee, the new SMEC will live up to expectations and come up with practical recommendations that have taken into account the views of relevant parties and are conducive to helping SMEs to take advantage of their niches to start and sustain their businesses.

The new SMEC will commence work shortly in order to come up with a report for submission to the Chief Executive within six months.
