Mexico and Hong Kong are Important Trading Partners

  • In 2025, Mexico was Hong Kong's largest trading partner in Latin America and 20th worldwide. Hong Kong was Mexico's 30th largest trading partner in 2025.
  • In 2025, bilateral merchandise trade between Mexico and Hong Kong increased by 38.3% from 2024, amounted to HK$61,328.6 million. The average annual growth rate from 2021 to 2025 was 6.4%.
  • Hong Kong imported HK$15,467.0 million worth of goods from Mexico in 2025. Major imports included office machines and automatic data processing machines; electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances, and electrical parts thereof; and telecommunications equipment.
  • In 2025, Hong Kong's domestic exports of goods to Mexico amounted to HK$26.4 million. Major domestic exports to Mexico included miscellaneous edible products and preparations; jewellery, goldsmiths’ and silversmiths’ wares, and other articles of precious or semi-precious materials; and plastics in primary forms.
  • Hong Kong's re-exports of goods to Mexico totalled HK$45,835.2 million in 2025. Major re‑exports were electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances, and electrical parts thereof; telecommunications equipment; and office machines and automatic data processing machines.

Hong Kong is an Important Entrepot for Mainland-Mexico Trade

  • Hong Kong is an important entrepot for merchandise trade between Mexico and Chinese Mainland. In 2025, about HK$57,549.8 million, representing around 6.5% of the total trade between Mexico and Chinese Mainland, was routed through Hong Kong.

Hong Kong is an Important Location for Mexican Interests

  • Hong Kong is a separate customs territory and participates in the World Trade Organization as a full and separate member, using the name "Hong Kong, China".
  • Hong Kong welcomes overseas investment and offers an environment in which there is a free flow of capital and return on investment without exchange controls.
  • As at 2 June 2025, there were around ten local offices in Hong Kong with parent companies located in Mexico.
  • Hong Kong and Mexico signed an Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement in January 2020 and the Agreement entered into force on 16 June 2021. The Agreement enhances the confidence of investors, expands investment flows between the two places, and further strengthens bilateral economic and trade ties.
