Australia : Restrictions on Imported Manufactured Goods Containing Asbestos

The Australian Customs has recently detected a number of goods containing asbestos in imported manufactured goods. It is reminded that the importation of asbestos or goods containing asbestos into Australia is generally prohibited under the "Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956 (Customs PI Regulations)". Importers of asbestos or goods containing asbestos into Australia without prior permission can face a fine of up to AUD110,000. A copy of the fact sheet on importing asbestos into Australia is attached at Annex (pdf format) for reference.
