Commercial Information Circular No. 30/2003

US : Mandatory Advanced Electronic Transmission of Sea Cargo Information

The trade was informed via Commercial Information Circular No. 26/2003 dated 18 January 2003 that the US Customs Service is required under the US Trade Act of 2002 to draw up by 1 October 2003 regulations requiring advanced electronic transmission of both inbound and outbound cargo information. Further to the release of preliminary proposal for air cargoes, the US Customs Service has posted on its website (http://www.customs.gov) preliminary proposals for sea, truck and rail cargoes. A copy of the proposal for electronic transmission of information relating to sea cargoes is appended to this circular for reference. The US Customs Service is inviting comments on the proposals before the relevant regulations are drafted. Interested parties may send their comments by email to traderelations@customs.treas.gov by 2 February 2003.
