Notice to Exporters: Series 2 (EU) No. 8/2005

European Union (EU)* : Initiation of a Safeguard Investigation Concerning Imports of Certain Textile Products Originating in the Mainland of China

Further to the Commercial Information Circular No. 139/2005 cum Notice to Exporters: Series 2 (EU) No. 6/2005 all dated 26 April 2005, the European Commission has announced the initiation of a safeguard investigation in relation to nine textiles and clothing product categories originating in the Mainland of China. A copy of the notice is at Annex (pdf format) for reference. Salient points are set out below:

(a) Date of Notice : 29 April 2005
(b) Products : Category 4 T-shirts
Category 5 Pullovers
Category 6 Men's trousers
Category 7 Blouses
Category 12 Socks and stockings
Category 15 Women's overcoats
Category 31 Brassieres
Category 115 Flax yarn
Category 117 Flax fabrics
(Detailed product description is listed in the Annex to the notice)
(c) Time Limit for Comments : Interested parties may make their views known in writing and apply to be heard by the Commission within 21 calendar days (by the latest on 20 May 2005).
(d) Schedule of Investigation : Investigation will be concluded within 60 days (i.e. before 28 June 2005) and may be extended by 10 working days in exceptional circumstances.
