Further to the Commercial Information Circular No. 122/2005 cum Notice to Exporters: Series 2 (EU) No. 5/2005 all dated 11 April 2005, the European Commission (EC) has announced that it will open investigation and seek informal consultations with the Mainland of China (the Mainland) on nine categories of Chinese textiles and clothing (T&C) imports, before considering whether the safeguard measures should be invoked.
Details
- The EC announced on 24 April 2005 that it would open investigation into nine categories of Chinese T&C imports which had triggered the alert zones as prescribed under the guidelines published by the EC for the application of the Mainland textiles-specific safeguard measures. Details of the product categories concerned are set out at the Appendix.
- In accordance with the EC guidelines, the EC will investigate the extent of market disruption caused by these nine categories of Chinese T&C imports. The investigation will last for 60 days, during which the EC will initiate informal consultations with the Mainland authorities simultaneously.
