Notice
to Exporters
Ref. : EIC 111/13/5
18 February
1998
Dear Sirs,
Notice
to Exporters: Series 1 (USA) No. 12/98
Export
of Restrained Textiles to the USA
Recognition
of ISO Standard for Generic Fibre Names
This Notice informs
traders that the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has announced on 13
February 1998 certain changes to a number of textile-related rules effective
from 16March1998. The changes include, among others, amending the rules
to incorporate by reference the generic fibre names and definitions for
manufactured fibres in the International Organization for Standardisation
(ISO) Standard 2076: 1989, "Textiles--Man-made fibres ¡V Generic
names". That is to say, manufacturer may use ISO alternative fibre
names for names that are currently recognised by the FTC. For example,
"viscose", a name recognised by ISO, may be used as an alternative
generic fibre name for some forms of "rayon", and "elastane"may
be used as an alternative to "spandex".
