Dear Sirs,

Commercial Information Circular No. 247/2013

European Union (EU)* : Amendments to Regulation on Food Additives

Further to Commercial Information Circular No 234/2013 dated 20 March 2013, the European Commission (the Commission) has adopted a Regulation to amend Annex III of Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 concerning the use of Sodium ascorbate (E 301) in Vitamin D preparations intended for use in foods for infants and young children. Details are set out in Commission Regulation (EU) No 256/2013, which can be accessed through the following link:
http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2013:079:0024:0026:EN:PDF

DETAILS

2.Annex III of Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 lays down a Union list of food additives approved for use in food additives, food enzymes, food flavourings, nutrients and their conditions of use. Since the European Food Safety Authority considered it appropriate to authorise the use of Sodium ascorbate (E 301) as an antioxidant in Vitamin D preparations intended for use in foods for infants and young children, Annex III of Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 should be amended accordingly.
